HOW FEAR COMES INTO BEING
The Evolution of Fear
________________________________________________________
Fear appears in so many forms that it is difficult to recognize it as fear. Since we do not fully understand the exact nature of fear, it then follows that we are unable to resolve it because we do not understand the intricate mechanics of the process.
Animals do not experience fear in the same way as people. Their reaction to danger produces in them the activity to escape or to fight.
The deer, running away from the lion, is not it.
The animal that is running away from a lion is not afraid in the same manner as man. It is simply being compelled to do one of two things; that is, either to fight or to run, so as to preserve its life. This is not fear as we know it to be.
Being different from our animal friends, we must be very careful that our activity does not arise solely as a reaction to external stimuli. If we run away because of "fear," we shall always be running.
That activity which does not arise from within us, or which is not modified by inner reason, is the cause of all fear.
Are we are following the pattern that is correct for animals, but wrong for us. The animal does not have a lingering fear in reacting to experience.
Having been strengthened by a natural reaction to experience, there are no lingering thoughts, as with us
.
The animal merely settles down to its way of life again, having correctly expressed its nature in that experience, forgetting that moment.
